Michael & Jim say goodbye
i wonder if that’s steve carells real crying voice
It was. Steve and John were legitimately crying every time they shot this scene. That’s why their eyes are so red. Also, it didn’t hit them until they shot this that they hadn’t said their goodbyes in real life so it was very hard for them to say goodbye as Michael and Jim.
And then I think some of the dialogue is crazy close to real life. The fact that Michael asks if he’s “doing the wrong thing” to leave and Jim leans in, looks him in the eye, and says “Absolutely not. It’s just that sometimes, goodbyes are a bitch.” Maybe I’m reading into it too much but I’ve always thought that was both a character and real life moment between them, as if Steve was truly seeking an answer to that question and John was giving him a direct answer. I can never shake that vibe when I watch this scene.
Also, when Jim tells Michael “What a great boss you turned out to be”, I’ve always thought there was double meaning in those words in that - look at what Steve did for this Michael character, how he had all of this opposition against him in the beginning but turned it all around and made Michael Scott stand on his own two feet compared to Ricky Gervais’ David Brent. Now THAT could be a stretch in my mind, but I can’t shake that, either. And I’m not sure I want to.
UGH WHY DID I WATCH THIS
